PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com had the absolute pleasure recently to enjoy a Q&A Listening Session with Mississippi On His Back Rap Artist, David Banner, and the Producer with the Hotness, 9th Wonder, as they discussed their new artistic collaboration "Death of a Pop Star." The Q&A Listening session was moderated by Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg. David Banner was just naturally funny. And 9th Wonder was just as cool and laid back as my Uncle John who is from the South, as well. David Banner and 9th Wonder are both from the south. PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: What was your inspiration for writing Writes of Passage?

Lora Rene' Tucker: "It was the fact that I am a child of post-segregation and the civil rights era. I felt that people could relate to my journey. In the book, I acknowledge the people who caused me strength, caused me pain, made me grow. That's where my poetry comes from. Inspiration from the most simple to the most powerful. Those are my rights but I wanted them to be my Writes of Passage. I wanted to write my book in a language that everyone from the Depression babies to Generation-Y could relate to."

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: As a native New Yorker, what does it mean for you to have your debut novel, Writes of Passage, launched at the Harlem Branch of the New York Public Library?

Lora Rene' Tucker: "I grew up in the library. I embraced the Harlem Branch of the New York Public Library. Langston Hughes. Countee Cullen. Zora Neale Hurston. My Mother was a teacher in Brooklyn. The public library was my best friend. Books were my Writes of Passage again. Curious George, Charlotte's Web. I am very proud to have my debut here. Being a former interior designer, I am in the presence of history and architecture. Harlem and Brooklyn are different boroughs but one entity as a New Yorker."

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: What advice do you have for other self-published authors?

Lora Rene' Tucker: "Never give up. Never give up. Your work is your heart, your joy. People have a 9 to 5 and still have joy from 5 to 9. Don't take yourself seriously, take your work seriously because the work is you. This poetry is what needs to be the next political voice of the era. My book is from the best publishing house on Earth and that is me. Walt Whitman self-published his work for 20 years before someone published him. Poetry is truly needed. We didn't know that we needed Van Gogh's Starry Night. My baby,Writes of Passage, is needed. Someone says something and I say wow that is a poem. I would love someone to read my work so that I could hear their interpretation of my words."

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: When did you start rhyming?

Fatso: I started rhyming when I was around 11 or 12-years-old. I actually started songwriting before I started rhyming.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: Why do you call yourself Fatso?

I consider myself a Fatso because I was so different in many aspects socially speaking. A Fatso is someone who stands out and I like the way it sounds. I’m not just a rapper, I’m a songwriter. I rap. I sing. I’m not Usher but my voice works for me. I accept the term rapper but it’s just kind of limiting to be considered just a rapper.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: How did you meet Mr. Cheeks of Mr. Cheeks Entertainment? What happened with that deal? Are you currently an independent artist?

Fatso: I used to see Mr. Cheeks around Queens, I would see him and some of the Lost Boyz fam and crew. I met him at a concert where he was performing with several other artists. We hustled our way backstage. Mr. Cheeks asked me to spit something and of course, I rapped. He considered me the first artist on Mr. Cheeks Entertainment. I had a manager at the time. I don’t know what happened with the deal. My dad and I had a trip planned to meet Mr. Cheeks at the studio to do some recording for my demo tape. They were going to shop my demo around to the major record labels. I was in Virginia or Maryland. The meeting was cancelled. I was 17 years-old. I never got the story about what happened. Yes, I am an independent. There is just me as an entertainer, an artist, and a business man. I work with 2 booking agents in Alexandria, Virginia, and Brooklyn, New York. In 2009, I am focusing on securing gigs everywhere I can whether it be press wise, etc. If the right situation comes along, through major distribution or major booking, we will consider it at that time. PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: What featured guests, producers, and tracks do you have on your EP, Fatso Presents the Skinny?

Fatso: Quincy Ledbetter, a producer for Petey Pablo, 2Pac, and Young Buck, produced the song, “I Can Fix It”, which is a fun one, I can tell you that. The EP also features on “I Can Fix It”, singer London who is signed to Motown Records. London, who is based in the ATL is originally from Oakland. The Ep also spotlights singer, Broadway, from Dallas, Texas, who is on a few songs such as “I Can Fix It”, “It’s Over”, and “Go Girl.” Broadway is currently shopping his demo to the major labels. “It’s Over”, produced by Ready, is a song about a relationship. I compared the relationship to a thunderstorm. I felt that the relationship was one thing but it turned out to be another. The track, “Real Eyes”, produced by Bounce House Productions out of Florida [Bounce House Productions' main producer is G Boy Da Charmer], that’s one of my favorites, too. It’s a song about a relationship I was in but it’s what I think my ex-partner would say about our relationship now.

I had an awesome time yesterday as an audience member on The Tyra Banks Show. Me and my friend sat in the greenroom while we waited to go behind the velvet rope to Tyraland. We were not sure who the guest or guests would be but we were thrilled when we found out who they were. The guests for our show were music artist, Brandy, on the comeback tip with her new album, Human, and the diva of divas, Miss Patti Labelle, promoting her new cooking DVD and cookbook. Brandy looked great and sounded great. Her 3 background singers dressed in all black sounded amazing, as well. There was also a hilarious turn when Miss Patti attempted to show Tyra and Brandy how to make her fried apple pie. This did not turn out as well as they hoped. I am not sure when the show will be aired. I will try to find out and of course, I will let post here on PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: When did you know that you wanted to be an Urban Christian artist?

iNDIGO: I never wanted to a gospel artist. This is a calling put on my life. I am new to being saved. Earlier in my career, I was a member of a secular group called 4 Bidn (Forebidden). Sylvia Rhone (Former Chairman/CEO of Elektra Records) signed us personally over at Elektra. I would describe 4Bidn as Destiny’s Child meets EnVogue. In April 2006, Jesus Christ grabbed a hold of my heart. During that process, I didn’t want to sing anymore. I wanted to reach souls. I didn’t want to be a Christian artist because people hold you to a higher standard. 4Bidn didn’t work out because it wasn’t God’s purpose for my life.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: What does your self-coined phrase, “Saved and Fly”, represent?

iNDIGO: I coined the phrase, “Saved and Fly”, to especially let young girls know that they do not have to lose their identity and their swagger when they give their lives up to God. It’s fly to know that you are going to Heaven. You’re just living your life to please God.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: What does your hot first single, “Search My Heart”, mean to you?

iNDIGO: A good friend of mine, Tyra, wrote “Search My Heart.” She’s a very anointed songwriter. The song was produced by Young Boy. I went and cut the single and put my heart into it, because I believed in the single so much. The song is my way of telling Jesus Christ that I want to live for him. If I have anything in me that you don’t want there, take it away from me. The song ministers to people who are not saved and also to the ones who are on the fence with one foot in and one foot out.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: Who are 2 of your musical inspirations?

iNDIGO: Right now at this moment, I would say one of the two is Ayiesha Woods. She’s on the Christian side. I’m also really digging Tye Tribbett. I really admire boldness in the body of Christ. I like how Tye really goes out of the box. He inspires me to keep being myself in the music. I’m not in a major label situation. I am doing my album independently.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: What dreams do you have for yourself in 2009?

iNDIGO: One dream is that every song on this album is going to bless somebody. I see myself prayerfully getting a major distribution deal. I want someone to be able to walk into Best Buy or Walmart to buy my CD nationwide. People will be able to order my CD off of my website. It will also be available on Yahoo Music and CD Baby, among other retailers. I would also like to win some awards such as a Stellar award. Although I do not need an award’s validation, I have the Lord’s validation.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com recently had the pleasure of chatting a spell with a phenomenal rap artist on the rise, South Minneapolis’ own, K.O.B. K.O.B. (Pronounced Cobe) stands for “Knocking Out Bars” and that is what he consistently does. The first single from his untitled album (Goodlyfe Muzik) is “Invisible Man.” I will let him tell you what that means. Grab a hot chocolate and peep the techniques of K.O.B.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: Where did you get the name, K.O.B. (Knock Out Bars), from? When did you start songwriting and when did you decide that you wanted to pursue a career in hip hop?

K.O.B.: The name, K.O.B., is something that I came up with. When I rap, the most important thing to me is how I knock out bars. I really started falling in love with hip hop in 3^rd or 4^th grade. I started by listening to Blues and old Rock and Roll songs, old Elvis songs. In 1999, I started putting words to music and developing my flow. I actually wanted to be a singer at first. I went with the thing that I knew I could do well. Anything I can do with music, I’ll do. Hip hop is just a stepping stone.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: Your newest single, “Invisible Man”, is the lead single from your upcoming album on Goodlyfe Muzik. What does it mean to be an invisible man? What will your album be called and when will it be released? What guests and producers worked on your album?

K.O.B.: “Invisible Man” actually came to be with JC of Block Entertainment, he’s a singer from Nashville. He was floating ideas around when we heard the beat. He just started humming. I was playing off the whole white aspect. As far as my talent and ability go, not a lot of rappers can see me. The album’s currently untitled. We are just concentrating on making good music. Especially for me, the quality album is more important than the title right now. The album should be released soon. I have a couple of producers working on the album. I have a 16 year-old kid, Prodigy, helping to produce on the album. Prodigy is one of the most talented producers, I have ever met. We vibe well. We are using a lot of underground producers such as Team Voltron. I am supposed to travel to St. Louis to work with producers, the Track Starz. They did a lot of work on Chingy’s first album. We’re not big on names. We’re trying to build the best music possible. I want my fans to like K.O.B. for K.O.B. and not for who I worked with on the album. I am definitely open to working with major producers. Being a good rapper and taking control of your craft is not easy to do.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com: Who are three of your musical inspirations?

K.O.B.: I like a lot of lyrical people, like De La Soul, Q-Tip, and Joe Budden. Fabolous and Lloyd Banks had a huge influence on me. Witty, lyrical rappers like Ludacris, get the wheels turning in my mind.

PGCountyGirl.Blogspot.com : What are your dreams for 2009?

K.O.B.: For 2009, I think it’s going to be my big introduction to the world. At the end of 2009, I want to be a little bit more well known. I want to see where the music goes. I feel so blessed. I want to do for music what music has done for me. I want to take hip hop to the next level. I want to do what Kanye, Lil’ Wayne, and 50 Cent have done for the game.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (You Have to Check this Movie Out)

Me and my sister, Joy, had the pleasure to see one of the most amazing films that we both have seen in a long while this past Friday night. It is called SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. SLUMDOG Millionaire has been nominated for Six British Independent Film Awards in the following categories: Best British Independent Film, Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), Most Promising Newcomer (Dev Patel & Ayush Mahesh Khedekar), and Best Technical Achievement (Cinematography (Anthony Dod Mantle). It is the story of two kids from India, Jamal and Salim, that have to raise themselves after their parents and family are killed due to an uprising. Everything about this film is amazing: the directing, the cinematography, the acting, the film soundtrack. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE featured the song, "Paper Planes", by Sri Lankan rap artist, M.I.A.
